The Rebel in You

Women face all kinds of discrimination. Even when these are not blatant, there are micro-aggressions that feel like painful pin-pricks and that is what I have tried to show through the safety pins in the background. Such experiences can sometimes drain the colour from our experiences and this is the reason I chose to restrict my palette for the figure to black and white. To add texture to my painting, I used old tapes from cassettes for the figure's hair and scrapes from my broken jewellery to build her necklace.
